Summer Meals
The federal government has not extended waivers that allowed all children to receive free school meals for the last two years. However, the Colonial School District will offer bags of groceries on Thursdays at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School from 12 noon-1 p.m., starting June 23 and ending July 28. The food can be picked up at the back of the building via the bus lanes and will include bulk food items to help supplement meals at home.
Colonial School District's Food Services Department will also be providing meals to students who are attending any of the District's full-day summer programs, such as Extended School Year for students with special needs.
These summer meals are being paid for through a generous donation from Giant and its Feeding School Kids initiative, which resulted in over $14,500 for the District. Money for school meals has also been provided by the Subaru of America and its Share the Love Campaign through the Colonial School District Education Foundation.
How to continue receiving free meals in the fall
As of Colonial’s last day of school for 2021-2022, the waivers expired and families will have to demonstrate that they meet federal requirements to receive free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-2023 school year. Families who would like to continue receiving free and reduced-price meals for their children will need to complete the online application online starting July 1, 2022. Click here for the link to the online application.
