Gim Theory: Fishtopia Review
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Gim Theory, your go-to source for all things Gimkit! For our first edition, we’re keeping it simple by focusing on Fishtopia—the game mode that started it all! Before Gimkit, the leading game was Blooket, popular for letting players collect Blooks, earn banners, and customize titles for their avatars. But Gimkit changed the game by offering a more immersive experience—allowing players to walk around, explore, and interact, rather than just being stuck on a static screen answering questions and upgrading. But enough of that—what’s that? Oh, sorry, let’s dive right into the watery world of Fishtopia!
Now, in Fishtopia your goal is to collect as much money as possible. You get money by catching and selling fish, but you can get equipment and avatar upgrades which help you catch better fish faster. You can also travel worlds like Purple Pond, Sandy Shores, etc, with better catching rates and better fish. It can be slow or fast paced depending on the people playing so you can take it at any pace you want.
One final thing for this review is the pace it plays at, now I mentioned in the second paragraph that “It can be slow or fast paced depending on the people playing so you can take it at any pace you want." But, it does not truly show the slowness that the game normally plays at. It’s way slower than all of the other games by far (except Farmchain). Which does make it a good game to play when you just want to just chill out and vibe, which is nice when compared to all the other games where it can get intense, fast.
But enough with the ranting, now we have the final rating. Here we go!
Ease of Use - 8/10
It’s not hard to figure out where to go when you know where to go, but when you don't know where to go to get better fish, it’s not that easy, even with the signs. But, the arrows that point you around are a definite plus.
Gameplay - 7/10
It’s a fun game overall, but it has its problems which brings it down. First one is the upgrades and how they compare to the gameplay. It is built to be long term, so you have to play for a good chunk of time (like 15-20 minutes of playtime) to actually progress a chunk far in the game. Which is annoying when you want to play a quick game of Gimkit, playing Fishtopia won’t be as fun compared to Don’t Look Down or even better Knockback.
Secret Gimmicks - 10/10
I love this gimmick, it’s so simple. But that’s the good part. So, if you haven’t seen the berries in Fishtopia, they are scattered everywhere on the map. You see, in every area you travel too, there is a berry. And when you eat all the berries, you travel to Lucky Lake where then if you travel back to the main area you can find a Gimberry, and then- you really thought I was going to tell you. Ha! Well you have to see for yourself
Overall Score - B-
Well it has its ups and its downs, but it is still an OG game and it’s still good. So get out there and play some Fishtopia, I mean, it’s the mode that started it all.
