Families who would like to continue receiving free school meals for their children in the 2022-23 school year are reminded to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application online starting July 1, 2022.
This marks a return to pre-pandemic practices, since the federal government has not extended waivers that allowed all children to receive free school meals for the last two years. As of Colonial’s last day of school, the waivers expired and families will have to demonstrate that they meet federal requirements to receive free or reduced-price meals from school. The application can be found online by clicking here: schoolcafe.com.
Over the summer, however, Colonial School District’s Food Services Department will be providing meals to students who are attending any of the District’s full-day summer programs, such as Extended School Year. Groceries for families in need will also be available for pick up at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School on Thursdays from 12 to 1 p.m. starting June 23 and ending July 28. Food can be picked up at the back of the building via the bus lanes and will include bulk food items to help supplement meals at home.
These summer meal provisions are being paid for through a generous donation from Giant and its Feeding School Kids initiative, which resulted in over $14,500 for the District. Money for school meals has also been provided by the Subaru Foundation and its Share the Love Campaign through the Colonial School District Education Foundation.
