Chloe Balcer holding a French horn

PWHS senior Chloe Balcer took part in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 11 Orchestra Festival on January 14 at Upper Perkiomen High School. The French horn player earned the spot after a competitive audition process in the fall.

“This is the first time in two years that there was an actual district festival,” said PWHS Orchestra Director Elise Derewitz. “Chloe is a senior, and it’s exciting that she is participating in both district band and orchestra this year.”

The Festival involved 125 students from 43 schools throughout the southeastern Pennsylvania region, and it included a day of rehearsal followed by an evening concert. The guest conductor was Christopher Cinquini, the conductor of the Reading Youth Symphony, Berks Opera Company, and senior high orchestral director for the Boyertown Area School District.

Sophomore Sophia Somers also qualified on violin but did not attend the event.
