Colonial Middle School students could use the well-known Latin saying of “veni, vidi, vici” to describe how they did in two Latin competitions held in February and March.

Twenty-six students came, saw, and conquered the Latin Week Competition held by the Philadelphia Classical Society at the end of February. Several of these students also achieved recognition for their achievements on the National Latin Exam in March. 

To be considered for the Latin Week, students had to submit an original interpretation or representation of an artifact, subject, or scene suggested by classical Greek or Roman mythology, history, archaeology, or literature. These representations could be done through paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, costumes, and other projects. Other categories allowed for computer-generated or written projects.

The following students won awards for exemplary projects at the regional level, and some also won awards for testing. Congratulations to the following students, who received distinctions of “with honor” (cum laude), “with great honor” (magna cum laude) and “with highest honor” (summa cum laude):
