Plymouth Whitemarsh High School alum Gary Smith spent 36 years in the District as a teacher and administrator — but, even in retirement, one place he could always be found was working the clock for the boys and girls home basketball games.

At their game against Abington on February 8, the PWHS Girls Basketball team honored Gary Smith for 46 years of service to Colonial.

"One of his fondest memories was getting to see every player that ever reached the 1,000-point milestone presented with the commemorative ball, so we presented him with one of this own," said Head Coach Dan Dougherty.

During Smith's time in Colonial, the programs won three state titles, ten district titles, and had 29 players reach 1,000 points. At the game, the girls beat Abington, securing the Suburban One League Liberty Division title for the third year in a row and taking their record to 20-0.
