Colonial School District cafeterias are celebrating National School Lunch Week with various activities and prizes. This year's theme is "School Lunch: What's on Your Playlist?"
At Colonial Elementary School (CES), the cafeteria is decked out in musical décor, and special prizes, including music gift cards, will be awarded throughout the week. The celebration at CES will end on Friday with a cafeteria dance party featuring special guest Walter Mellon.
Colonial Middle School will celebrate "PA Preferred Day" on Thursday. Each serving line will contain at least one item that is produced, processed or grown in the Commonwealth. Included will be a chicken drumstick from chickens raised in New Holland, as well as locally grown produce in the made to order salad station. Also featured will be Margherita pizza made with basil grown in the building's own Aquaponics system! Other items will include milk from Lancaster and locally grown peaches and watermelon. The snack bar will offer soft pretzels utilizing flour milled in Hatfield.
National School Lunch Week is sponsored by the School Nutrition Association.
