Making A Difference: PE Spirit Team Children's Clothing Drive

With the weather change inspiring families to go through winter clothing to “see what still fits,” the PE Spirit Team at Plymouth Elementary School (PE) took advantage of the timing to start a warm clothing drive for children.

“You can help people and give them stuff they do not have, and they can enjoy the stuff like you do,” said third grader and PE Spirit Team member Ananth Akkiraju.

Through the Winter Break, students can bring in gently used children’s clothing and coats, plus new hats, underwear, and pajamas. A group of third graders from the PE Spirit Team will bring the donations to the organization Cradles to Crayons when they volunteer at the West Conshohocken facility in January.

“It makes me feel good, because you get to help others and you did something to make a change,” said Maya Goldstein. “Some kids do not have the privileges that we have.”

The PE Spirit Team is open to all third grade students. Their mission is to perform activities before and after the school day to help in their building and in the community. The children made posters and will help organize the clothing, including the 40 bags they have already collected.

Members of the PE Spirit Team will also be heading to Brightview Senior Living this month to spend an evening playing games and spreading cheer with the senior citizens. In the spring, small groups will also make visits to Brightview and Cradles to Crayons, as well as plant around the school’s benches and host a lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research.

To donate to the clothing drive, simply drop off new or gently used children's clothing and coats (size toddler to adult small), new hats, new underwear, or new pajamas in the bin by the front door inside Plymouth Elementary School.
