PWHS kicks off 2021 sports camps with soccer

Even though it's the first week of summer vacation, more than 175 students were on the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School campus — to take part in soccer camp.

"My favorite thing about soccer is that you get to play with your friends and have fun," said seventh grade camper Bree Molony.

The PWHS Boys and Girls Soccer teams work together every year to host the co-ed camp. More than 140 campers, ages 8-14, take part, while the high school players, coaches, and a handful of alumni oversee the different activities.

"My favorite part is the shooting station, because we get to play different games on the big net," said Dean Allen, a rising senior at PWHS. "Other than that, I just like seeing everyone and having fun."

The campers develop individual and team skills, including dribbling, passing, trapping, heading, and shooting, while practicing and playing in drills, game-like situations, and competitive contests.

While the camp serves as a major fundraiser for the teams, the high school players also see it as an opportunity to give back to the next generation of players.

"My younger sister is actually in line over there. It's cool, but it's kind of weird that I'm her counselor," said Kate Edwards, an 11th grader at PWHS. "It's fun to help the kids."

Weeklong baseball and basketball camps — and weekly Monday night volleyball clinics — start June 21, and a second week of basketball camp will be held the week of July 19. Click here for details and registration information.
