Making A Difference: Conshohocken Elementary sends kind messages by ladybug for the Great Kindness Challenge

Inspired by their One Book/One School title, Conshohocken Elementary students held their own “Ladybug Launch” to send kindness messages to other K-3 elementary schools in the Colonial School District.

During their Friday afternoon “Pack Parties”, the children created ladybugs out of two stacked paper plates. When the recipient opens the “wings”, they’ll find a message of kindness written underneath.

First grader Sofia Cernetti sent words of encouragement. “I wrote ‘Keep Shining,’” she said. “Why I wrote it is so you can keep trying and being yourself.”

The ladybugs are on their way to bring kindness messages to Whitemarsh, Ridge Park, and Plymouth elementary schools.

“My favorite thing was how you get to write these nice notes and give them to other people,” said first grader Knox Coyne. “It makes me feel happy.”

In addition to finishing up the week of the Great Kindness Challenge, the full-school activity also serves as the second project toward the school’s annual No Place For Hate certification and is the January connection to the One Book/One School title Ladybug Launch, written by Melissa Trempe and Natalia Ojeda and illustrated by Manuela Montoya.
