More than 170 runners participated in CSDEF’s inaugural Foundation 5K events

Foundation 5K Kids Dash start — *1/4-Mile Kids' Dash*

Runners of all ages braved the mist and cool temperatures to raise $5,500+ to support Colonial School District students through the Colonial School District Education Foundation’s inaugural Foundation 5K, 1.5 Mile Walk, and 1.4-Mile Kids' Dash.

CSDEF Board Member and Race Director Alyson Stern was excited about the turnout, which almost doubled the expected number of participants. “We tried to make it an event that was inclusive of all ages and abilities, offering a distance and race for everyone,” she said.

The morning began with a speech by CSDEF President Annette Swartz, who outlined some of the Foundation’s ongoing projects, including: teacher grants, scholarship opportunities, and addressing food insecurity by funding school lunches, weekend groceries, and summer meals for struggling families. Whitemarsh Elementary School second grader Gia Giovanisci performed the national anthem, and then it was off to the races.
