Giving Tuesday push brings in $3,000+ for feeding hungry students

Thanks to the generosity of more than 50 donors, the Colonial School District Education Foundation (CSDEF) Food For Thought campaign has raised more than $3,000 in the past week. This effort has propelled the Foundation to nearly 75% of its initial goal of $10,000 to support students and families struggling with food insecurity.

The $10,000 target holds even greater importance, because Firstrust Bank is matching the first $10,000, doubling the impact. These funds will go toward:

  • Paying for school lunches for families who narrowly miss qualifying for free and reduced meals.
  • Providing gift cards to help cover weekend meals.
  • Summer meals.

Since 2022, the CSDEF has purchased more than 5,000 lunches and distributed $16,000 in grocery store gift cards to support families in need.

The Food For Thought initiative also benefits from the generosity of John Kennedy Subaru and Subaru of America. Through the Subaru Share The Love event, customers purchasing or leasing a vehicle can direct a $250 donation to the CSDEF. Last year alone, the Foundation received $21,618 from Subaru’s program, thanks to contributions from Subaru of America and the John Kennedy dealership.
