CES mallet donation 2025

This year, the music and art programs throughout the Colonial School District each benefited from a $400 boost from the Colonial School District Education Foundation (CSDEF).

The music department at Colonial Elementary School (CES) used the donation to buy new sets of mallets to use with the drums and keyboard instruments that they use in general music class.

“With the volume of students coming in and out of the music room here at CES (over 800!), maintaining our equipment so all students can have a great experience is a top priority,” said music teacher Genevieve Kaplan. “It's so wonderful that we have a partner in the CSDEF to keep the arts accessible to all our budding musicians!”

In the art room at CES, the donation meant new heavy duty steel frame stools. “These stools are a safer, stronger upgrade from the wooden ones, providing students more comfort and less distraction while enabling them to focus more on the artwork they are creating,” said teacher Taylor Kerner.

At Ridge Park Elementary School, art teacher Jen Fitzgerald bought a new color wheel and some additional supplies including multicultural markers and crayons. “It is so nice to feel so supported, and I know the kids love new stuff,” she said.

The Colonial School District Education Foundation’s main focus is food insecurity, and the Foundation has paid for more than 6,000 school lunches and $9,000 worth of weekend meals. The organization also provides annual donations to each school library, in addition to funding Teacher Grants that cover initiatives that come up during the school year.
