Colonial School Board honors John Kennedy Subaru for $175,000+ in donations to fight food insecurity
Thousands of school lunches, as well as weekend and evening meals, have been provided to Colonial School District students facing food insecurity, thanks to John Kennedy Subaru’s contributions to the Colonial School District Education Foundation.
Since 2017, the dealership has donated more than $175,000 to the Foundation, helping to pay for nearly 17,000 school lunches and more than $22,000 in weekend and evening meals for students in need since January 2023.
To recognize this generosity, the Colonial Board of School Directors welcomed a representative of John Kennedy Subaru, along with members of the Colonial School District Education Foundation board, to the March 20th meeting for formal recognition. Foundation President Annette Swartz presented a plaque in appreciation of the dealership’s ongoing support. In return, Subaru presented the Foundation with this year’s donation of approximately $35,000.
John Kennedy Subaru’s contributions are made possible through Subaru of America’s “Share The Love” event, which runs alongside the Colonial School District’s Annual Campaign from November through early January. During this period, customers who purchase or lease a vehicle can direct a $250 donation to a charity of their choice. Since the initiative began, Barone has designated the Colonial School District Education Foundation as the dealership’s Hometown Charity, initially focusing on summer meal programs.
Recognizing a growing need in the community in 2023, the Foundation expanded its Annual Campaign to enhance support for food-insecure families through the “Food For Thought” initiative. This program provides:
- School lunches for families just above the threshold for free or reduced meals
- Groceries for weekend meals
- Summer meal programs
In addition to combating food insecurity, the donations from John Kennedy Subaru also funded the outdoor classroom at the new Colonial Middle School.
The Colonial Board of School Directors expressed its deepest gratitude to John Kennedy Subaru for its support and for helping to ensure that no student in the community goes hungry.
