Universal free breakfast program to continue in 2023-24 school year
Free breakfasts for all Colonial School District students will continue in the 2023-24 school year, thanks to the newly signed state budget that includes funding for the continuation of the universal free breakfast program.
Every school cafeteria in the district offers a variety of tasty breakfast options daily. Breakfast is served from 8:45 to 9:05 a.m. in elementary school cafeterias, where students may come first after being dropped off. The middle school serves breakfast via kiosks from 7:40 to 8 a.m., and the high school serves breakfast from 7 to 7:30 a.m. in the cafeteria, coffee shop, and via kiosks.
Although no applications are required for this free breakfast, families still must apply to receive free or reduced-price lunches.
Colonial understands the importance of nutrition as it relates to academic performance. We also understand that some families may not officially qualify for free/reduced price meals based on federal guidelines but may still be experiencing financial difficulty. Therefore, Colonial has secured funding to help families in need. We will be using this funding to pay for lunches for a designated number of students whose family income may exceed federal guidelines in addition to those that already qualify. Any family that would like to be considered must fill out the free and reduced lunch application. If you have already submitted an application for the 2023-2024 school year, no further action is required on your part. Meal applications are available at www.schoolcafe.com. If you need a paper version, please reach out to Jennifer Masorli at 610-834-1670, ext. 8207.
