Whitemarsh Elementary School's "Family Feud" offers fun conclusion to One School, One Book program

Whitemarsh Elementary School's "Family Feud" offers fun conclusion to One School, One Book program

Whitemarsh Elementary School celebrated the end to the One School, One Book program with a spirited “Family Feud”-style game show on May 10.

Students, faculty and staff, and families have been reading Appleblossom the Possum by Holly Goldberg Sloan. Families were encouraged to read the book together each evening to help foster good listening skills, build vocabulary, and develop a memorable tradition.

In the book, the theme of family ties is emphasized through the tale of Appleblossom, a curious possum who accidentally falls down a chimney and has to rely on her family to rescue her. Students at Whitemarsh are learning that while they may rely on their family at home, they also have a family at school to support them.

Classrooms decorated posters and cheered on their “family” representatives during the game show, which featured survey responses from each class, such as “Name a type of flower” and “Name something that comes in pairs.” The teams had to provide a response that they believed would have the most class votes.

“Our students and staff enjoyed a great time coming together and supporting each other,” said Jess Salley, School Counselor.
