What you need to know about school meals

The Department of Food and Nutrition Services is excited to welcome your children back in the cafeteria! We are committed to serving nutritious meals featuring fresh local fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and scratch-made items. We prioritize health by avoiding deep fryers and strictly adhering to federal Smart Snacks guidelines for beverages and snack items. Menus are created and analyzed by a Registered Dietitian. Your children can enjoy wholesome, balanced options every day! Please read below for some important information:

  • All student breakfast meals are free. You don’t need to complete any paperwork to take advantage of this offer. However, please note that federal guidelines require students to choose three out of the four breakfast items, one of which must be a fruit or 100-percent fruit juice, as demonstrated in the graphic below (protein can be taken in combination with or in place of grains). See graphic below.
  • Breakfast is served from 8:50 to 9:05 a.m. in the elementary school cafeterias, from 7:40 to 8:00 a.m. in the middle school via kiosks, and from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at the high school cafeteria, coffee shop, and smoothie kiosk.
  • To receive free lunches, a free/reduced meal application is required to determine if your child(ren) are eligible. The meal application can be found here: www.schoolcafe.com. Students with approved eligibility must select at least three out of the five meal components must be selected at lunch, one of which must include a fruit or vegetable; otherwise, a la carte pricing will apply. See graphic below.
  • Please note, if your child(ren) qualify for free meals, this does not include extras/snacks/a la carte items. Therefore, you may still deposit money into your child’s account for these items. We strongly encourage cashless transactions at this time. Money can be added to accounts via www.myschoolbucks.com.
  • Menus are located at the following link (click here) and are also available on Amazon Echo and Alexa (by enabling the Nutrislice skill via your Amazon Alexa app).
  • We have not raised school meal prices this year. They remain the best value in town! Elementary lunch: $2.85/Middle school lunch: $3.05/High school lunch: $3.50/Premium meal: $3.75
  • High school students may utilize mobile ordering via the Nutrislice app for made-to-order deli sandwiches or salads. By preordering, they can bypass the lines (don’t forget to check it out, as secret menu items are added periodically).
  • We know our safety! All staff have been trained in rigorous food safety standards and practices. Additionally, at least one Serv-Safe Certified person is present in the kitchen at all times.
  • The district has been moving towards a finger scanning process to authenticate students at register system/check out. This has been determined to be a safe and accurate way to authenticate purchases. If you are new to the district, you will receive further information about the process, including instructions to opt out. If students do not yet have a finger scan, they can use their student ID number at checkout.
  • Per federal guidelines, we are required to inform you annually that the district has both a Local School Wellness Policy as well as a Meal Charging Policy. These policies (220 and 808.1) can be found by clicking here to get to BoardDocs.
