Two Plymouth Whitemarsh High School students named National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists

Two Plymouth Whitemarsh High School seniors - Adyanta Anand and Alex Babka - have been named Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

To become a finalist, students must first make it to the Semifinalist round by scoring highest in the state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). They then submit a detailed application to be considered for Finalist status. Alex and Adyanta are among the approximately 15,000 seniors nationally who achieve this elite academic recognition and are now eligible to receive scholarships.

Adyanta also has the rare distinction of earning a perfect score on the Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles exam. AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. Adyanta not only received the top score of 5, but he also was one of just 459 students in the world to earn every point possible for this exam, receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam. 

Both students are college-bound in the fall. 

Adyanta intends to go to college to pursue a degree in computer engineering, but has not yet determined what college he might attend. He is a member of the high school’s Math Club. Alex is President of the Math Club and a captain for the swim team, and said he is planning to study math.
