Three PWHS scholar-athletes celebrate the mid-year National Signing Day
Three student athletes wearing college gear on February 2026 signing day

Congratulations to the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School scholar-athletes who have committed to continuing their sports careers at the college level. Colonial School District recognized the students at the National Signing Day celebration on February 4.

Brian DeVitis, Lacrosse, Neumann University

Brian DeVitis signing for Neumann

Brian DeVitis will be heading to Neumann University next year to play lacrosse for the Division III Knights. So far, the three-year varsity goalie for the Colonials holds an 80% overall clear percentage, 60% save percentage, and has made 122 saves. A highlight of his PW career is receiving the game ball his sophomore year against Council Rock South. Brian notched 18 saves in a second half comeback—earning him the game ball, despite the Colonials losing the game by one point.

Brian started playing lacrosse in kindergarten and has been a goalie since fourth grade. Outside of school, he has also participated in both Headstrong Lacrosse and True Philadelphia Lacrosse. His favorite thing about the sport is connecting with the team on and off the field. He’s looking forward to getting a fresh start and competing at a higher level in college.

As a musician at PW, Brian is a four-year member of the band, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, Montco Band, and Clarinet Choir. He’s also a four-year member of the Bowling Team, a member of the Spanish Club, and a Distinguished Honor Roll student.

In addition to playing lacrosse, Brian plans to study Criminal Justice at Neumann.

Melanie Daloisio, Bowling, Sacred Heart University

Melanie Daloisio signing with Sacred Heart University

Melanie Daloisio will be bowling for the Division I Pioneers at Sacred Heart University. A four-year anchor bowler for the Colonials, Melanie has had four 700 series and averages 215 a game. The two-time Suburban One League Champion also was a Suburban One League runner up and four-time Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Qualifier. In 2025, she was a regional semifinalist and finished in 11th place at states.

Melanie started her bowling career at age three, and outside of PW, she bowls in a Saturday morning league at Pike Lanes and in a Junior Gold League. While bowling is normally considered an individual sport, Melanie believes that playing these last four years with her teammates at PW has prepared her for more competitive-level team-bowling in college, where she’s looking forward to traveling across the country and competing with the best female bowlers.

An honor roll student at PW, Melanie is also a three-year varsity player on the PW Softball team.

Melanie plans to study Exercise Science at Sacred Heart.

Amir Butler, Football, Stonehill College

Amir Butler signing for Stonehill College

Amir Butler will be playing Division I football for the Stonehill College Skyhawks next year. As a Defensive End for the Colonials, he had 50 tackles his senior season, including 19 tackles for a loss and ten sacks, earning him First Team All League, First Team All Area, and Honorable Mention All State. A highlight of his football career at PW is his 74-yard scoop and score to send the game into overtime in this past season’s win against Wissahickon.

A relative newcomer to the sport, Amir started playing football his sophomore year. He said that, at the time, he wasn’t the biggest, strongest, or fastest player — and didn’t know what he was doing and would be criticized by his peers. But he stayed dedicated to the sport, put in extra hours behind the scenes, and waited for his turn to be in the spotlight. With that, he believes the biggest thing he’s learned from football is how to be patient.

Amir is looking forward to competing at the college level and seeing how much he can evolve as a player.

Outside of football, he is also the manager of the PW Boys Basketball team.

At Stonehill, Amir plans to study Criminal Justice.
