Students show their appreciation for local veterans

Veterans Day was celebrated across Colonial School District through song, flag displays, artwork, and visits with local veterans on Nov. 11.

Veterans Day is marked annually in the United States on Nov. 11. Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day takes place on the date that fighting ceased in World War I at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The occasion is reserved to honor veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve.

At Whitemarsh Elementary School, veterans were celebrated during an assembly in which students introduced veterans who are important to their lives. Students also sang patriotic songs for them. The service men and women were invited to stay for lunch and visit classrooms as well.

At Conshohocken Elementary School, a breakfast was held for special guests, where students sang songs, posed for pictures with the veterans in their lives, and dressed in red, white, and blue. Plymouth Elementary School showed its support for veterans by inviting students to fill out tags with names of veterans in their families and attaching the tags to flags that line Plymouth Road. Be sure to swing by to see the patriotic display. Ridge Park Elementary School also held an assembly where students introduced veterans in their lives and showed their appreciation.
