Schools "arrr" glad to celebrate National School Lunch Week
National School Lunch Week had students, faculty, and staff saying "Ahoy, mateys!" this year as they embraced the "School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure!" theme.
National School Lunch Week was established in 1962 to highlight the vital role of school lunches in supporting student health and learning. To celebrate, several school cafeterias embraced the theme whole-heartedly by creating an engaging atmosphere for students during lunch. Festive décor, pirate-themed meals, delightful desserts with hidden treasures, and special lucky tray days were part of the festivities at Colonial Elementary School.
In other Food & Nutrition Services Department news, Colonial School District is the only Montgomery County school district to have received $10,000 in grant funding to improve access to healthy, local foods. The grant, which was awarded through the state's Farm-to-School program, will be used to increase purchases of chicken, beef, yogurt, produce, and other items from local farms.
