Congratulations to Plymouth Whitemarsh High School junior Austin Alderfer for coming in first at the PIAA District 1 AAA Diving Championships held on February 19 at North Penn High School. Austin is the first boy in PWHS Swimming and Diving history to win the title.

PWHS Diving Coach David Stewart sees Austin’s drive in the classroom taking high level classes at PWHS, as well as at the pool—often being the first on the board and last off the board in practice. “He is a perfectionist who doesn't settle for ‘okay’ and is ready to make a splash or a rip entry at the next PIAA State Swimming & Diving Championships,” said Coach Stewart.

At Districts, Austin bested the field by more than eight points with a six dive score of 299.90. During the season, he equaled or bettered both of the school records set by Michael Flamm in 2023. Austin’s high score of 307.70 ties the six dive record, and his new 11 dive record of 514.60 beat Flam’s record of 453.90 by more than 60 points.

“Austin is still working on new dives to add to his program, and when he gets these higher degree of difficulty dives, both of these records are very much in jeopardy,” added Coach Stewart.

Austin will be joined at the State Diving Championship by PWHS sophomore Ethan Scully who finished eighth. Other notable finishes include PWHS juniors Morgan Hulitt at 13th and Dominic Benvenuti at 16th. Two members of the girls team will also be heading to the state competition: PWHS junior Annabel Ferhat who placed 6th and senior Riley Kiernan who placed 8th at Districts.
