Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's Odyssey of the Mind team headed to the World Finals

Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s Odyssey of the Mind team placed first in their division at the Pennsylvania State Finals, securing a spot at the World Finals to be held at the end of May in Iowa.

The team of Leo Nasatir, Eleanor Hormell, Stephanie Davies, Rosa Warshaw, Thea Kupersmith, and Charlie Stieg earned their spot at the March 28th competition at Juniata College after placing first in regionals. The team also came into the state competition having earned the rare Ranatra Fusca award, which is given to teams that demonstrate creative thinking and risk-taking.

During Odyssey of the Mind competitions, students must create an eight-minute solution to a problem. The solution, which is presented in skit format, has to include specific elements. The team competed in the “Epic Quest” division, where the challenge involved writing a poem in the style of classics like “The Odyssey.” The poem’s narrative had to include a beast, a rescue, and overcoming an epic challenge.

The Plymouth Whitemarsh High School team has spent over 100 hours since September working on their skit, which included original lyrics and music created by Leo, a rap battle, marionette puppets, and other creative touches.

Plymouth Whitemarsh has a long tradition of placing high at competitions. The last time the team made it to the World Finals was in 2024.
