Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's Coach Chang selected as Eagles' Coach of the Week
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Football Coach Dan Chang has been named the Philadelphia Eagles’ Coach of the Week.
The distinction is awarded to high school football coaches who exemplify characteristics such as integrity, achievement, and leadership as exemplified by Don Shula, the winningest coach in National Football League (NFL) history.
Coach Chang was selected based on a nomination form that was evaluated by an internal Eagles selection committee. He is featured on the Eagles’ website (click here to read the article), and will receive a $1,500 equipment donation to put back into his program. All Coaches of the Week will be recognized on-field at an Eagles game (yet to be determined) and will be in the running to be named the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year.
“I was surprised and honored that I got chosen to be the Eagles Coach of the Week. They recognize some really good coaches in the area and I am just blessed to be a part of it,” said Coach Chang, who said the outpouring of support has been tremendous following the Eagles’ announcement.
Player Eddie Moyett said he was “in complete awe” to learn that Coach Chang won the award, but not all that surprised because of the “leadership, honesty, devotion, and love and care” he has for his team. He said without Coach Chang’s leadership, he wouldn’t be the person he is today.
“Coach Chang works his hardest day in and day out to make sure us as players, young men, and members of our community are ready to take on the day with whatever challenges are ahead,” he said. “Everything he does is for us, and for that, he deserved this honor.”
Coach Chang could potentially clinch his 100th win on Sept. 27th if the Colonials prevail over Hatboro-Horsham School District. While this week has been a whirlwind of kind words and encouragement from around the community, Coach Chang is not letting it affect his approach to this week’s match-up.
“Every Friday night is a battle, but our team is ready and prepared just like every other game,” he said. “We will compete the entire game, and hopefully it goes our way.”
