Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Odyssey of the Mind team places third at World Finals
Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s Odyssey of the Mind team finished in third place for their problem in their division at the World Finals held in Iowa May 21-24.
The students competed against 37 teams from across the nation and five other countries in Problem 3, Division III, Classics: Opening Night Antics. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition where teams of up to seven students present their solution to a predefined long-term problem through an original skit. This solution takes many months to prepare and involves writing, design, construction, and a theatrical performance. There is also a separate spontaneous component of the competition where the team is given a different problem and has to generate solutions on the spot.
Team members Ry Bass, Jackson De Guzman, Natalie Dyck, Ellen Fang, Miles Hormell, Isaac Nolt, and Thomas Warshaw qualified to participate in the World Finals after coming in second place at the state competition. In addition to their amazing finish at the World Finals, the students served as cultural ambassadors to an international team from Hong Kong, becoming fast friends with those students.
