Making A Difference: Conshohocken Elementary School and Cradles to Crayons
In a little more than a month of time, Conshohocken Elementary School collected enough items to help clothe approximately 300 children for the organization Cradles to Crayons.
Beginning in early April, Conshohocken Elementary students started bringing in new and gently used clothing and shoes, new socks and underwear, school supplies, and hygiene items. Cradles to Crayons organizes these items into “outfit packs”. By the time the drive ended on May 9, the school had collected a little over six rolling carts of clothing. The organization can make approximately 50 outfit packs from one rolling cart.
“Our team is so grateful for this partnership,” said Emily Jones, Community Engagement Associate for Cradles to Crayons. “Thank you to all the students, staff, and community members of Conshohocken Elementary School who made this possible.”
Cradles to Crayons focuses on helping children in need from birth to age 12 and places an emphasis on making sure the donations are good quality. Conshohocken Elmeentary teacher Amy Campbell noted that the school has worked with Cradles to Crayons for nearly 15 years—before the organization moved from Conshohocken to a larger facility in East Falls.
“Collecting for children in need helps show empathy and compassion for others,” said Mrs. Campbell. “We believe in the Cradles to Crayons mission that giving all children dignity helps them to succeed.”
The Cradles to Crayons collection is one of the many activities planned through the school’s climate team, which creates school-wide activities and projects that showcase kindness and helping others.
