Making A Difference: 2025 PW Mini-THON continued to break annual fundraising record

At the end of the 2025 PW Mini-THON, the gym at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School erupted into cheers and applause as participants learned that their efforts brought in $57,733.42 to help fight pediatric cancer.

PWHS junior Olivia Scheer felt excited by the fundraiser’s results. “Knowing how much work all of us put into making this event successful, counting up that final total was so rewarding,” she said. “It was a moment that I will never forget.”

The PW Mini-THON is modeled after Penn State’s annual THON event. Like THON, the Mini-THON supports Four Diamonds, an organization that has helped more than 4,800 families dealing with pediatric cancer. Four Diamonds also works with Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine to develop new treatments and cures.

For 12 hours overnight on Friday, March 28, the PWHS gym and lobby were home to dancing, refreshments, sports, and other activities. This year, the event included new attractions like a live band, Sunrise on the Bleachers, and the crowning of the inaugural Queen and King of Mini-THON.

“PW Mini-THON takes months of preparation, but the team puts on a clinic of event planning,” said PWHS senior Thomas Warshaw. “Having to not just organize but keep 400 kids fed and entertained can be a monster task. With that said, it’s that challenge that makes it so satisfying when it works out.”

For PWHS junior Bridget Fullerton, her favorite part of Mini-THON is how it unites everyone. “Seeing people of all grades and interests in our high school come together for one common cause is more powerful than words or emotions could ever do justice,” she said.

The total amount raised outpaced last year’s take by more than $15,000, but that wasn’t the only record broken. More than 50 students raised $100 or more, 20 raised $450 or more, and four people raised more than $1,000.

“It’s the people behind it, all dedicated, passionate,” said PWHS junior Sophie Brenner. “I have met friends of a lifetime, and that has made Mini-THON super special to me. Together, we all create an atmosphere that’s full of laughter, positivity, and the spirit of giving.”

The overnight event is the culmination of a year of fundraising that also included flamingo flocking, holiday caroling, bingo night, and a teacher costume contest.
