Family Engagement Night brings multilingual families together

Family Engagement Night brings multilingual families together

Colonial School District hosted a Family Engagement Night for multilingual students and their families on May 29, bringing together over 100 families for a night of food, activities, and games.

The spring celebration was held at Colonial Middle School and featured a variety of craft activities, which were led by Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s International Baccalaureate Career Programme students. IBCP has a language development component where the students are required to spend 50 hours over two years to explore a target language and culture. National Honor Society students also volunteered their time to serve at the event.

Children had the option of coloring bookmarks, making a water bottle snow globe, painting a kindness rock, and making bracelets using colorful beads. Students were also welcome to shoot hoops and dance. For each activity they did, students received a stamp on their "passport." Each family also left with a board game to play at home.

Families also had the chance to visit tables set up by the Hispanic Heritage Association, ACLAMO, the YWCA, Family Services of Montgomery County, and the Greater Plymouth Community Center.
