Entrance to Colonial Elementary School enhanced
Visitors to Colonial Elementary School will notice a new look and feel when they enter the building, thanks to hard work that took place over the summer to enhance the safety and security of the main entrance.
Those who stop by the school will step into a spacious and bright lobby area, where they will be able to get a visitor's badge at a kiosk and check in with the front desk receptionist before being buzzed into the building. The new lobby area features brand-new carpeting, bright lighting, and a television monitor to display important school information.
Another enhancement that will be immediately noticeable is the installation of windows in the Colonial Elementary School gym. The windows allow for natural light in a part of the building that previously did not have any.
The enhancements to the entrance and gym are part of a much larger project to add classrooms for an increase in student enrollment. Work to convert office spaces to classrooms on the first floor of the building began in earnest at the end of the 2023-24 school year and will continue throughout this school year. The anticipated completion date for the new classrooms will be the start of the 2025-26 school year.
As this work continues, it will go on mostly out of sight from students, faculty, and staff. Construction zones have been sealed off from the remainder of the building so that school can continue uninterrupted. Visitors to the school should still be aware of their surroundings upon entering and exiting the parking lot due to construction activity.
