Demolition work continues at Colonial Elementary School
Renovation efforts are moving ahead quickly at Colonial Elementary School, where the demolition of part of the gym and the second floor is nearly complete.
The renovation project, which is intended to provide additional classroom space at the school, began in March and is anticipated to be complete by fall of 2025. The first phase of the project involves demolishing non-load bearing walls on the corner of the building so that district administrative offices can be moved into this location. The existing district administrative offices, which are on the first floor, will be converted into new classrooms to accommodate additional students that are anticipated in the 2025-26 school year.
Visitors to the school will be able to see that the exterior walls have been removed on the front corner of the building and that work is taking place to install footings and to install windows in some areas where non-load bearing walls used to be.
Meanwhile, school continues to operate as usual and with minimal disruption. Security measures have been put in place to ensure the building is under surveillance at all times of the day.
Once the school year comes to a close, district administrative staff will be relocated to other buildings, so that work on the new classrooms can begin over the summer months.
