Comprehensive Plan approved by School Board
The Colonial School District Board of Directors approved the 2025-28 Comprehensive Plan draft at the March 20th meeting.
The plan, once it is approved by the state, will guide school district initiatives and programming over the next three years. It was drafted following input from a steering committee made up of teachers, School Board members, administrators, students, parents, and residents who were led in the process by Dr. Rosemarie Gregitis, Assistant Superintendent, and the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The steering committee met as a large group several times, and also broke up into smaller focus groups to draft the plan, which is required by the state as a way to help school districts effectively and efficiently plan cohesive, long-term goals.
Committee members provided suggestions and feedback on various components of the plan, including:
- Mission, vision, and educational values
- Student academic achievement and career readiness
- Leadership, teaching, and learning
The committee also evaluated strengths and weaknesses throughout the organization and identified goals for the three-year plan.
Those who have committed the mission statement to memory will not have much to adjust once the plan is approved by the state. Committee members liked the current mission statement and modified wording slightly based on student feedback. The new mission statement, which identifies the district’s current purpose and objectives, will read:
For students to learn, grow, and contribute to a supportive school community that is welcoming for all.
Similarly, the vision statement was modified only slightly. The new vision statement, which identifies long-term goals, will be:
To prepare resilient, lifelong learners and leaders who will enrich the world.
Following Board approval, the plan was submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education on March 26 for review.
