Colonial students represent at Conshy GreenFest
Colonial School District students were well-represented at the recent Conshy Greenfest event hosted on April 27 by the Conshohocken Environmental Advisory Council.
Students from the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's International Baccalaureate Programme helped run three stations at the event, which was held in Mary Wood Park and featured tables and displays related to environmentally friendly practices and products.
One of the stations invited younger children to pick out a polar bear, put it on the ice, and see how long it could survive based on various conditions. At the "carbon handprint" table, visitors were encouraged to sketch their hands and then write on the inside of the hand the things they might do to contribute to carbon emissions. On the outside, they were asked to write things they can do to lessen carbon emissions after thinking about their own handprint.
At the "energy road map" table, visitors could scan QR codes and review flyers that would help them determine low-cost ways to make their homes more eco-friendly.
Along with the high school students, Conshohocken Elementary School students were present at the festival through their artwork. Some students visited to see their pictures of clouds and rain displayed for festival visitors.
Congratulations to first-grader Ivy Romberger, who won a gift card, and to third-grader Hazel S., who won a bike and accessories. Both were first place poster winners in their age group.
