Colonial School District’s Nurse Liaison Charlene Koretz presented at state conference
Congratulations to Colonial School District’s Nurse Liaison Charlene Koretz who was chosen to present at the Pennsylvania Association of School Nurses and Practitioners (PASNAP) Conference recently in Hershey.
Mrs. Koretz, who serves as a school nurse at both Colonial Elementary School and Whitemarsh Elementary School, presented an interactive session on “Tips for Mandated Screenings” in collaboration with the Penn State PRO Wellness School Nurse Mentorship Program.
In Mrs. Koretz’s session, nurses new to the school setting learned about the evidence-based best practices for conducting the hearing, vision, scoliosis, and growth screenings that school nurses are mandated to perform. The presentation also included tips for screening students in special populations, what equipment they need to accurately perform the screenings, and a hands-on portion where the attendees had a chance to practice what they learned under the watchful eye of seasoned mentors.
“The conference offered rewarding opportunities to share my expertise with nurses new to school nursing, gain increased knowledge to share with my district colleagues, and the ability to network with school nurses from around the state,” said Mrs. Koretz.
PASNAP is the state’s school nursing professional organization that provides leadership in the promotion and delivery of quality health services and health education by certificated school nurses in every school district in Pennsylvania.
