Colonial Elementary School renovation project work to begin in March 2024

Students, faculty, staff, and families will start to notice construction vehicles and work being done at Colonial Elementary School starting in March 2024.

The work is part of a renovation project approved by the School Board in June 2023 needed to address growing enrollment at the school, which houses all fourth- and fifth-graders across the District. The project will add multiple new classrooms by converting existing District Administrative offices on the first floor. A portion of the Colonial Elementary School gym will be converted into a two-story office space for District Administration.

Work to reconfigure the gym will begin this spring. The parking lot adjacent to Colonial Elementary School that is across from the baseball field will be fenced off for construction vehicles. Other than that, there should be little disruption for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Gym classes will still take place during the work being done on the gym. A barrier will be set up to seal off the section of the gym that is being renovated. Sound will be minimized and air quality will be monitored throughout so as not to disrupt the educational environment.

As work progresses, there may be changes to the traffic flow at arrival and dismissal times and communication will be sent out accordingly. Construction is expected to continue throughout the remainder of this school year and continue into the 2024-25 school year. It is anticipated that the new classrooms and District Administrative offices will be open by September 2025. Continue to watch for updates here on our website as the project continues.
