Colonial Elementary School renovation project ramps up this summer

Now that the 2023-24 school year has ended, construction will ramp up at Colonial Elementary School to ensure the project stays on schedule. Please be respectful of warning signs posted on the property that are intended to protect the safety of workers and visitors. 

Construction has already begun to reconfigure the main entrance to CES and enhance the safety and security of the building. When this work is complete, visitors to the school will enter a vestibule where they may sign in with the receptionist (instead of walking past the auditorium and gym to get to the main reception area). Colonial Elementary School administrative offices will also be relocated to the first floor. 

The main entrance phase of the project will be done before students return in the fall.The relocating of the Colonial Elementary School administrative offices will be completed before the start of school in the fall of 2025. In addition to the main entrance, work will begin this summer to convert first floor office spaces into new classrooms. These classrooms are needed to accommodate an additional 100 to 125 students that are expected by the start of the 2025-26 school year. 

All district office personnel have been relocated to other buildings temporarily for the 2024-25 school year. Work has been ongoing since March to tear down walls, pour concrete footings, and erect steel beams to create a two-floor office space for district administration departments including Curriculum, Pupil Services, Technology, Business, Human Resources, and the Superintendent.

As the project continues, various events that occur at Colonial Elementary School may be relocated. For example, all meetings for the Colonial School District Board of Directors will be held at the auditorium in Colonial Middle School for the 2024-25 school year.  Please keep an eye out for communication and visit our website for updates.
