Board votes for pre-Labor Day start to 2025-26 school year
The 2025-26 school year will begin on Aug. 25, 2025, following action taken by the Colonial School District Board of Directors.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the pre-Labor Day start at their Sept. 19 meeting. This will be the second consecutive year that the District will start in August, as a way to get in more valuable instructional time while also honoring various holidays and breaks. Starting before Labor Day has the added benefits of putting Colonial School District in sync with nearby districts and Central Montco Technical High School and being able to end school by the second week of June.
Superintendent Dr. Michael Christian noted during the Board meeting that the calendar start date had been discussed and reviewed at the Sept. 9th Community Relations/Student Life/Student Wellness Committee meeting. During that meeting, the committee had reviewed a draft that included a start date of Tuesday, Aug. 26, and a winter break that had students returning to school on Friday, Jan. 2, 2025. The committee members agreed that moving the start date back to Aug. 25, which is a Monday, would enable the district to extend the winter break to include Jan. 2. Students would return on Monday, Jan. 5.
With the 2025-26 school year return date established, the district will now work to plan out the remainder of the instructional calendar and bring it back to the Board for approval later this year.
