Greater Norristown Art League Summer Program for Teens

Teen Pastel Studio

This class is designed for teens ages 13–17 who are interested in learning and developing their drawing and pastel painting skills in a supportive studio environment. Whether students are beginners or have previous art experience, the class will focus on building confidence, strengthening fundamental skills, and encouraging personal artistic expression.

• Day: Thursdays
• Time: 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

6 Weeks Session June 11- July 23, 2026 no class June 25, makeup class included at the end of the session if applicable)

Class Description

Students will explore a variety of pastel techniques while creating finished artwork from observation and reference materials.  Topics include:

• Underpainting and color layering
• Light, shadow, and value
• Texture and broken color
• Atmospheric effects and mood
• Composition and design
• Creative expression through pastel painting

The course combines demonstrations, guided instruction, individual coaching, and group critiques. Students will complete several finished pastel works while gaining a deeper understanding of color, drawing, and visual storytelling.
