Plymouth Whitemarsh High School softball team takes share of Suburban One League championship

Plymouth Whitemarsh High School’s girls softball team has tied for the Suburban One League (SOL) - Liberty Division championship for the first time since 2008.

This is only the third time in program history that the softball team has achieved this honor. PW finished out the regular season with two convincing league wins to finish with a 17-3 record. 

The team was looking to build off of the success from last year, when the team finished the regular season with a 14-6 record, won three games in the District I 6A play-offs, and earned a spot in the PIAA state playoffs.  

The girls started the season with four straight days of tough games (including the current District I top seed Council Rock South, Pioneer Athletic Conference powerhouse Boyertown, and reigning SOL Liberty League champion Quakertown). With a 2-2 record, the girls engaged in some soul-searching over spring break, and then returned to rattle off 13 consecutive victories - including wins over Haverford and Quakertown. The team climbed all the way up to the number two seed in the District I 6A rankings.  

After a tough non-league loss against West Chester East, PW finished out the regular season led by its explosive offense, with a team batting average of .353, including 72 extra-base hits and 16 home runs. The girls have outscored their opponents by a score of 187-52. A stellar pitching staff has also contributed to the team’s success by striking out 161 batters this season (in only 120 innings pitched), with an ERA of 2.10, and held opponents to a .215 batting average against.
