Congratulations to the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PWHS) World Language Department for winning the Golden Globe Award — the highest honor from the Pennsylvania State Modern Languages Association (PSMLA) Exemplary Program awards.
In 2017, PWHS received PSMLA's Silver Globe Award. While that was an impressive achievement, the department saw it as an opportunity to look for even more opportunities to benefit students.
"As a department, we gathered together to identify areas that could still continue to grow," said World Language Department Chair Rich Madel. "After identifying the areas that were realistically attainable, we spent the following two years both individually and as a department engaging in practices that reflected program features at the Golden Globe level. For me, this is further evidence of the dedication each member of the department shows to providing the highest quality language learning experience for our students at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School."
The award reflects the department's abilities to retain students in higher level courses, encourage strong participation in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, implement innovative instructional practices in each classroom, offer special language-related opportunities in the PWHS community and continuously improve as teachers through yearly staff development.
