Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PWHS) Senior Dylan Gooneratne finished his high school golfing career with a three over par 74 at the PIAA Boys AAA State Championship on October 20 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York. The performance left Dylan tied for 14th place in the state.

"The tournament went well on Tuesday," said Dylan. "Although my short game wasn't up to the standard I wanted, I'm happy other parts of my game came through which allowed me to score pretty well. Finishing off my high school golf career with a T14 place finish was awesome."

This is Dylan's second year at the state tournament — and second year as Suburban One League champion. This year, he qualified for states after beating four other golfers at Districts in a playoff for the final spot.

"It feels amazing to be able to repeat as league champion and state competitor, because it proves to me that all my hard work since the state competition last year has paid off," he said. "If anything, there was more pressure for me to accomplish both of these feats again as a senior and goes to show how much my game grew over the last year."

Dylan credits the PWHS Golf Team for pushing him to be the golfer he is today.

"Playing on the PW golf team made me appreciate how fortunate I am to play this great sport and how fortunate I am to be surrounded with friends, family, teammates, and coaches that support all of my goals," said Dylan. 'I am forever grateful for their support over the past four years."

Dylan's top school is Penn State University Park, where he hopes to major in business and participate on the club golf team.
