PWHS physical education teachers go to class on new equipment

Teachers exercisingPlymouth Whitemarsh High School physical education teachers went through a different kind of teacher in-service on August 30. The teachers were the students as they underwent Escape Fitness' MOVE-IT! Training Program.

The program acquainted the staff with equipment in the school's newly outfitted weight and conditioning area adjacent to the recently constructed gymnasium. It also taught them novel workout instruction for all students from the new exerciser to the elite athlete.

"We're learning how to use this new equipment in our classes," said teacher David Stewart in between sets of what looked like a rigorous workout. "It's very good. What we have been provided with here is awesome."

The teachers will incorporate the cutting edge knowledge they learned into the physical education and elective curriculum at the high school. All exercises use non-traditional weights and resistance that is inclusive to all students during two main workout types -- a 45 minute high intensity interval training (HIIT) session that allows participants to reach the necessary heart rate zones to achieve the real benefits of HIIT training. Or "MOVE IT 30," the fast class version that still delivers a great HIIT workout in a shorter time.
