The Colonial School District held a meeting to update the community on the Colonial Middle School (CMS) building project on Thursday, November 29 at 7 p.m. in the CMS Auditorium.
Board members, administrators and members of the architectural and engineering design teams explained the need for a new building and detailed plans for the project, including current building designs, location of the construction zone and construction staging area, a project timeline and more. There will also be an opportunity to answer your questions.
The design of the building remains a work in progress, but at present the new building will include 16 more classrooms than the current building, including three additional science labs and larger spaces for the music programs. Also included is a gymnasium with a seating capacity of 1,300, a new bus lane and an increase in parking.
The projected cost of the building is between $76.3 million and $77.9 million. The School Board approved the borrowing of up to $84 million for the new CMS building and other capital projects in August.
