Dear Colonial Parents/Guardians,
Unfortunately, I have to share that Governor Wolf has extended the state's school closure until further notice. He specifically stated that we will be closed through the end of April. We need to be prepared for it to last longer. While it's not what anyone had hoped for, it's not surprising given the trend of the virus across the country.
As we have increased our remote learning this week, I appreciate the challenges it has created for families as you navigate through zoom, Google Classroom and other on-line tools. As our students are getting accustomed to learning new material online, I want to thank our parents and guardians who have helped their children with their school work. Our teachers have been working diligently in learning how we can efficiently deliver instruction remotely. Our faculty and staff understand that we need to be flexible during this time as you navigate online academics. We certainly recognize this new online model is not a substitute for our regular instruction. Please be patient over the next few days as we work through log-in issues amongst other kinks. (Contact numbers are listed below if you need help).
We will maintain the current academic calendar which includes spring break next week. Review assignments/enrichment activities will be provided for the first three days of the break April 6-8. After the break, our principals and teachers will continue to communicate with you and provide your child(ren) with online instruction. We know you have questions about the May and June calendar of events. We don't know how long we'll be closed, but we'll address important events like graduation as we get closer to those important dates.
- We have distributed hundreds of iPads/laptops and will be having one more distribution tomorrow, April 1, at each school from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- We will continue food distribution for those in need with breakfasts and lunches available for pick-up three days a week at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Please note: There will be a slight change in the pick-up schedule next week. Pick will be available on Monday, April 6 (two days of meals) and Wednesday, April 8 (three days of meals). There will be no pick-up on Friday, April 10. The regular pick-up schedule will resume on Monday, April 13.
- Our School Board will continue a regular meeting schedule via audio/video conferencing the week of April 13. An updated schedule will soon be posted on the District's website and social media.
We will continue to communicate information as we have it. In the meantime, I remain proud of our staff who have been working around the clock to adjust, adapt and make this transition to online learning as smooth as possible. I also commend you on your efforts to enable this change. I want to thank our parents/guardians who are working in the health care industry, law enforcement or other essential services. Please stay safe and adhere to the governor's social distancing guidelines.
We will get through this together.
