COVID-19 Update, 03/13/2020

Dear Colonial families,

I want to thank our staff and parents for a smooth dismissal yesterday after we learned Montgomery County schools would be closed. Today, Governor Wolf announced the closure of all Pennsylvania schools for the next two weeks. We will be sending periodic updates via ConnectEd and publishing information on the District website. We have received multiple offers from residents to volunteer in a variety of areas. While this is greatly appreciated, we must recognize the Governor's recommended guidelines for social distancing. Please note the following:

  • Colonial School District is partnering with the Colonial Neighborhood Council, Meals on Wheels and several dining establishments to provide breakfast and lunch to our students who participate in our Free and Reduced Lunch Program for the next two weeks. Families are being contacted with specific details.
  • The teacher in-service day on Monday, 3/16, was to be dedicated for instructional planning for an extended closure. Fortunately, our faculty and curriculum department had begun planning instructional activities prior to yesterday's announcement. Early next week we will be posting information on the District's website with specific grade level activities for our elementary students. Our middle school and high school will be communicating initial academic activities for students as well while planning additional assignments during the week. Many of our teachers will be utilizing Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and Google Classroom.

While we are faced with some challenging days ahead, Colonial is a community with a dedicated faculty and staff and filled with wonderful students. Please take this weekend to support one another and focus on your family.
