Eight Colonial Middle School (CMS) string students recently participated in the 45th Annual Schuylkill Valley Area Orchestra at Valley Forge Middle School.

The group started with seating auditions followed by a full Saturday rehearsal and two shorter rehearsals during the week, ending with a Friday evening concert.

"Not only were their fine talents displayed, they were excellent representatives of the Colonial Community," said Maria O'Connor, Orchestra Director at CMS. "The audition process and playing with strangers isn't easy for middle schoolers, and our kids were gracious and nice to everybody."

The students performed popular themes from the canon of great orchestral works, including Sorcerer's Apprentice by Dukas, Cappricio Italian by Tchaikovsky and Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody.
