Students in the Colonial School District go into post-secondary life prepared for success. One of the main reasons is the District's strong presence of Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
Nationally, there are seven organizations officially under the CTSOs umbrella, and five of the seven operate in the Colonial School District. CTSOs focus on developing skills in various subjects, depending on the organization, that will result in occupational competence later in life.
Students in Colonial are exposed to these clubs from 6th grade.
Colonial's CTSOs include:
Technology Student Organization (TSA)
TSA is a STEM-focused student-run organization that gives students the opportunity to explore and compete in subjects ranging from biotechnology in medicine to solving contemporary problems through engineering. It is available to students from 6th-12th grade at Colonial Middle School and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
DECA is a business-focused organization that works to build skills in finance, marketing, management and hospitality in its members. Members compete in role-play simulations where they present solutions posed in one of the core subjects. Students may also complete comprehensive projects where they develop solutions to business problems. It is available to 9th-12th grade students at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
FBLA works to prepare students for business careers through leadership, community service and academic activities. Students develop leadership skills and business knowledge by participating in FBLA's academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. It is available to 9th-12th grade students at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
HOSA promotes career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people. HOSA's program focuses on leadership development, motivation and recognition exclusively for students enrolled in health science education and is 100% healthcare focused. It is available to students at Central Montco Technical High School.
SkillsUSA prepares high-performance workers through quality educational experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. SkillsUSA focuses on building and reinforcing self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills with an emphasis on total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work. It is available to students at Central Montco Technical High School.
Colonial School District students find great success in these organizations and regularly place in each respective competition. The organizations are celebrated during the month of February: Career and Technical Education Month.
