Busy summer of construction winding down

A busy summer for the Colonial School District Operations Department was highlighted by ribbon cutting ceremonies at Ridge Park Elementary School and Plymouth Elementary School on September 5, the first day of school. The ceremonies celebrated the completion of the new four-classroom additions at both schools, as well as the renovation of both buildings to include climate controlled classrooms and state-of-the-art fire alarms and electrical systems.

Whitemarsh Elementary School also was renovated with climate controlled classrooms and the updated fire alarms and electrical systems this summer. Now, with the nearly completed renovation of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PWHS), all classrooms in the school district are climate controlled.

The new entrance to PWHS is still under construction and the main entrance will remain closed through September. The temporary entrance and security checkpoint is located at the rear of the building.

Also over the summer, the Operations Department oversaw the installation of new artificial surface on Colonial Field and the resurfacing of the track around the field. The construction of a new artificial surface baseball field is scheduled for completion this fall. Ongoing throughout the coming school year will be the construction of a new gymnasium as the west end of the high school.
