Lieberman tops at chess championship

Colonial Middle School (CMS) eighth grader Jack Lieberman placed third overall and was named the Eighth Grade Champion in the Open 13-14-year-old division at the Pennsylvania State Scholastic Chess Championship held recently in Gettysburg.

Lieberman was undefeated in five matches, winning four and playing to a draw in one in the event sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Chess Federation (PASCF).

Lieberman is accustomed to success at the state level. He placed fourth overall and was named Seventh Grade Co-Champion last year. He is currently the eighth ranked 13—year-old player in the state in the latest PASCF rankings. Lieberman is a straight A student who has made the Distinguished Honor Roll each of his seven semesters at CMS.
