Our Mission: Food For Thought

With more than one in four Colonial students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, food insecurity remains a series issue for many of our children. With your support, the Colonial School District Education Foundation is proud to help meet this most basic need and help these students thrive!

About food insecurity:

Children in food-insecure homes face severe long-term consquences:

  • Academic: Hunger is linked to lower standardized math socres (17.5% lower on average) and increased school absenteeism.
  • Behavorial: Food-insecure children have 1.57 times higher odds of being diagnosed with development delays or behavioral problems.
  • Physical Health: Students who are food-insecure have higher risks of iron deficiency, asthma, and chronic conditions like diabetes later in life.
