Are you curious about where your child is going online?

We understand that families may take interest in making sure their children are using technology appropriately, and that is why we have partnered with Securly, a web filtering vendor. With the Securly Home app, you can monitor your student's internet use on district-issued devices.

How the Securly Home app works

As a parent or guardian, you'll have access to:

  • A list of websites that your child has visited while using a district-issued device
  • Terms your child has searched online
  • Weekly email reports with a snapshot of your child’s internet activity

  3. Enter the Parent 1 email listed in PowerSchool.
  4. Choose the “Get instant access” option
  5. Check that account for an email titled “Your Securly login link”.
  6. Click on it to open the app.

If you have not received a link, need to register a different email address, or have any questions about the app, please email Colonial School District tech support.

How teachers use Securly in the classroom

Teachers have the ability to set up approved sites for students to access while they are on their district-issued devices in school, and they can also see what students are doing online in real time. This helps keep students focused, engaged in their lesson, and on task.

Through Securly, the Colonial School District can also permit the use of approved websites and block others that are not on the list of approved software websites. There may be times when students are allowed to access other websites based on what they are studying. For example, a student doing a research project could be granted permission by the teacher to visit websites related to their project topic. Parents and guardians will be notified by teachers when that happens.
